Summary of Position

Assists the Director of Life Enrichment in planning, scheduling, and implementing a program of individual and group activities based on resident needs and desires.

Essential Functions

  1. Understand the importance of customer service and be willing to learn resident/relative satisfaction techniques.
  2. Interview residents to find out their activity interests.
  3. Assist with planning activities for the residents according to their interests.
  4. Assist with preparation and distribution of monthly activities calendar for all houses.
  5. Assist with design programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment of overall resident population.
  6. Set up area to be used for a specific activity and clean up after each activity in conjunction with other staff. Set up room for activities and serve refreshments as directed.
  7. Participate in the transport of residents to and from activities when needed.
  8. Participate and assist residents while on outings.
  9. Take photographs during activities.
  10. Participate in activities with the residents when appropriate and encourage resident participation.
  11. Encourage the health and wellness of all residents.
  12. Oversee and implement activities in all houses and ensure follow through with staff, including instruction to household staff.
  13. Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with residents.
  14. Monitor the recording of residents’ attendance and report any changes in a resident’s activity pattern to the Director of Recreation and/or appropriate representative of the house the resident resides.
  15. Observe residents during activities, watching for signs of progress or problems and when possible, take steps to resolve concerns and report concerns to the Director of Life Enrichment and/or appropriate representative of the house the resident resides.
  16. Assist residents who have physical or mental limitations to participate in the activity.
  17. Assist with providing one on one activities for low level functioning residents.
  18. Assist with planning special activities as assigned.
  19. Assist with purchasing supplies and run errands outside the facility when necessary, maintaining budgetary guidelines.
  20. Feed, clean and care for facility pets.
  21. Decorate the facility for holidays and special events.
  22. Work on weekends, holidays and evenings when assigned.
  23. Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Life Enrichment when he/she is not available, as assigned.
  24. Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
  25. Observe all infection control procedures related to the Recreation department.
  26. Observe Resident Right’s policies at all times and maintain resident confidentiality.
  27. Observe facility disaster preparedness procedures.
  28. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Program Manual.
  29. Perform all other related duties as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment or his/her supervisor.

Special Requirements of the Position

Previous experience in leading recreational activities, arts/crafts; intellectual/educational activities, and community outings with geriatric population. Individual must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and have the ability to relate to the residents, volunteers, and the public, demonstrate enthusiasm, and act as a motivator to the elderly residents. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Certifications, Licenses Necessary

High school diploma or equivalent. Must have CDL or obtain within 60 days of hire.
